Background

The initial idea to provide an upgrade package for Morgan 4/4s was initiated during a meeting between PartsWorld Ltd and Tudor Motor Restorations . PartsWorld Ltd are the OE distributors for GM Vauxhall in the UK, who have the ability to offer genuine OE Componenets for specialist projects such as this. Allied with Kevin Vernon from Tudor Motor Body Repairs Ltd there is a wealth of experience in restoring Morgan's and a true understanding from the point of view of the Morgan 1.8 Litre GM Engineenthusiast.

Concept

The project's aim is to enhance the agility of a Morgan 4/4 by swapping the engine for a modern, fuel injected, light weight unit with much more power and mate this up to a compact five-speed gearbox. The upgrade will also incorporate an upgrade for the cooling system and brakes to compliment the extra performance.

The Morgan Sport upgrade will not only benefit the Morgan enthusiast, it will also benefit the environment by using a modern engine with up-to-date emmissions technology.

The powertrain upgrade of the Morgan 4/4 Sport will include a very compact 1800cc engine from the GM / Vaixhall group. This is an evolution of the legendary "red top" 16valve unit, enhanced with Variable Valve Timing and a power output of circa 175bhp. Marrying this with the chosen compact, aluminium, five speed gearbox will result in a truly fantastic combination.
