Engine InstalledMorgan 4/4 project diary :: update :: September 2007

With the engine sitting in beautifully in place it was time to address a few Morgan short comings and make a few modifications to cope with the extra power.

Induction
This is an area we were determined to improve by developing a system whereby cold, dense air can be drawn into the engine; this was achieved by way of a bespoke air box mounted above the radiator.

Cooling
The addition of an expansion tank, large capacity radiator and high powered cooling fan should ensure cool running. Some of the hoses and tubing seen in these photo’s are for development and testing purposes only, whilst we await bespoke manufacture of shaped hoses.

ExhaustDrive train
A bespoke 1360 series propshaft with sliding collar is being entrusted with the job of taking the power to the back end.

Fuel
This engine runs without a return system at 3.8 bar fuel pressure, a new in-tank pump with new fuel lines have been fitted.

ExhaustFinished Car
Our car was already fitted with a straight through Plus Eight silencer, this was in good order so we decided to try this out first as it was a relatively easy job to fabricate a front pipe and connect to the existing silencer and tailpipe.  The final decision on what system to use will be made when we get to the rolling road.

Electrics
Large fans require heavy wiring, the starter and alternator are on the opposite side to the CVH and of course this engine has an ecu and many sensors. Our chosen route was to fit a junction box to the bulkhead along with a new fuse and relay board under the dash. This will deal with all the engine, fuel pump etc. keeping everything neat and isolated from the original harness.
